When riding to Hunza, we met two British women who were working with their Public Service Organization in Hunza. They suggested we follow them to Altit, just 10 minutes past Karimabad. With big backpacks, that ten minutes at 10,000 feet turned into an exhausting 45 minutes. But they were right, Altit was a smaller, more `normal' village with a great little inn. |
Here
are some of the nice people of Altit. The older couple on the left came
out to greet us on out way down from the Eagles Nest. The offered/forced
on us dried apricots and almonds, the traditional munchie food of Hunza.
How could we resist their smiles and offer? This
picture is of some girls along the road. Women are given a higher status
in Hunza, are treated better, and are very friendly when encountered. This
was much different from the Pakistani plains, and made this place even more
enjoyable to travel in. |

Small
street and old houses in Altit village. These small narrow lanes quickly
bring a sense of history and continuity. |
